A Woman Hikes the Bell Rock Trail Near Sedona, Arizona

Why it’s important to get outside:

Many people spend their workdays indoors, in front of monitors, under fluorescent lamps, and then return home to bask in the glow of television screens.

However, spending so much time indoors is harmful to our health. Nature is also beneficial – perhaps even important – to human health. More and more science-based explanations for spending time outdoors are being discovered by psychologists and health researchers.

You are more likely to workout if you go outside. You don’t need a gym membership, transportation, or special equipment to get started: simply walk out the door. With a simple incline, pull-up rope, or series of steps, you can perform a variety of workout exercises at your local park. The wind’s force and rough terrain will help you mix up your exercise and burn more calories.
